April is National Poetry Month. To celebrate the month, we're having a fun poetry contest.
Here's how it works:
:: Post your limerick on how to best improve education below :: Invite others to vote on your limerick. To vote, simply click on the thumbs up icon in the top right-hand corner of the post. :: At the end of the month, the top five limericks with the most "thumbs ups" will have their limerick promoted on edutopia.org's homepage and in our enewsletter! Plus, you'll get a fabulous bag of art/poetry-inspired goodies!Let the Limericks begin! Deadline is April 30 at midnight PDT.

Wouldn't be a limerick contest without....
There once was a school on Nantucket
That had teachers and tools by the bucket
But the really good news:
They were all put to use
So the students did not say, "Ah, school is sooo boring."

There once were some students who caught,
all the information that was taught.
because projects were planned
and technology was in hand
these schools were the most highly sought!
There once was a teacher from
There once was a teacher from Delray
who knew that learning should be like play
the kids were not dumb
they were comfortably numb
the solution was NOT performance pay.
Secret of my Success
I refuse to see myself, or be seen
as a victim, a loser, "has-been"
I teach you to respect me
by setting a clear boundary,
and will not tolerate you being mean.

The Arts in School
The once was a teacher who’d try
Helping her students to fly.
She tried to engage
Her kids on each page,
So reading skills they would apply.
She liked writing poems in spare time.
Each standard would get its own rhyme -
With students she’d share
To help them prepare
For hurdles they might have to climb.
Soon the children would see -
School was as fun as could be.
Like never before
They remembered much more
When leaning facts with poetry.
More than rote facts and dry charts,
Learning can touch children’s hearts.
With drawing or song
Learning’s life-long
When content is learned through the arts.
