There was a smart teacher who, herself loved to learn
This love of learning sparked a fire in all – and not a slow burn!
With enthusiasm and passion she learned along with the rest
She knew that she and her students could all be the best!
The joy that resulted from starting these fires was worth more than she earned!

There was a young student from public school
Whose teachers were not all so very cool
Some held his attention by making learning fun
Rote memorization of texts there was none
His learning felt relevant so he said to himself,
“these are the teachers that rule!”

Once there was a district with budget woes
The test scores of students hit all time lows
When one bright idea was brought to the powers that be
“Look, we know a way that’s been proven to work, come with us and see”
They brought in technology so that students could learn anywhere, freely, now everyone knows,
Just how easy some things can change.

To improve the big world of our learnin'
T'ward accountability we should be turnin'
But the trend is to blame
only teachers, oh, shame!
Tis the wrong way to go, that's fer sure-nin.

N.C.L.B was a known joke
“The Feds’ fixed schools that are broke”
Teachers were smart
keeping Music and Art
Subjects taught thoughts that provoke

Soon the legislation will think,
As they put paper to ink,
While standards are high
Students’ reach for the sky,
Without the right funding they’ll sink.

A teacher in front of a class
Can work to make sure they all pass
With a class size that is right
Students will know they have might
Without the bad feeling of “last”

Parents must too be involved
To show each problem can be solved
Without all their help
A person can yelp –
“This system will never evolve!”

“High Stake testing can shows students knowledge
It is the way to get ready for college!”
Not all students test well
But to make them excel
Students personal growth should be acknowledged!

This poem is too long I know,
But this problem is incredibly slow
A quick fix, it’s not
Of talking we do need a lot
For all our future children to grow.

Learning is quite a gift
that causes such a lift
But if you don’t know
To let learning grow
You SHOULD get a letter of rif !

In Order to Fix Education (or Some Thoughts from Little Ol' Me)

In order to fix education
In all of the schools of our nation,
Instead of complaining,
Work toward attaining
Your best in the teaching vocation.

Some seem to spend much time preparing,
For battle… for war… they’re declaring
‘Gainst parents and pupils,
They’ve lost all their scruples,
And wander through school just despairing.

Yet others, it’s true, are inventing
Ideas that continue fermenting
Reach out to each student
Do all that is prudent
Not spending much time on lamenting

Learning is not teacher dependent.
For it to be truly transcendent,
Between those all involved
Problems must be resolved
Results will be likely resplendent.

Denounce not the author a prater,
I believe our schools can be greater.
Though limericks are nice,
Here’s my bit of advice:
Start with YOU… the rest will come later.

Curricular standardization
For teachers and kids in this nation
Holds everyone back
Because it does lack
Teachers' views and own observations

Let the Time Come!

There will come a time
When Education will shine
When students are free
To show Creativity.
Learning will be the joy it should be,
And not a bureaucratic travesty.
No more the test score
To slam that big door
On the hearts
And the dreams
That surely must be!
Students will thrive
And know they’re alive.
Innovation so true
Civilization anew!

There once was an important debate,
Should teachers have to collaborate?
An experiment was done,
It was the children who won!
And now more kids graduate!
