We know that students are more engaged with the learning when they are enjoying the topic/activity. We also know that students view teachers more positively if they sense the teacher is interested in the material and in teaching. A question I have is what do YOU do in the classroom that really starts out as something fun for you ... meaning that you do this particular approach or bring in this particular subject primarily because it brings YOU enjoyment. For example, I know one elementary teacher whose hobby is weaving, so she incorporates weaving into her teaching of math. Another teacher friend of mine has young children whom she loves to read to, so she has her high school physics students chose one of Newton's Laws of Physics and write children's books/stories about it. And I like to show clips of Hollywood movies to illustrate concepts -- and the movies are ones that I personally enjoy. In summary, how to you, as the teacher, play in the classroom as part of your teaching and your students' learning?
