What are you reading this summer?

Betty Ray Director of Programming and Innovation @Edutopia
Summer's nigh approaching, and I'm starting to curate my must-read list for those afternoons at the beach. :) So far I have:

Creating Innovators - Tony Wagner
Getting Started with Lego Robotics - Mark Gura
The Art of Game Design - Jesse Schell

Interesting and slightly nerdy, but not really light summer fare now that I reflect on it. Looking for good fiction, especially. Would love to see others' lists, so if you're a summer reader, please share!

Thanks for posting your reading list here! I added The Art of Game Design to my list for eLearning professionals here: http://www.onlinecollege.org/summer-reading-list-2012-online-learning-ed.... And fiction for fun sounds great, too. :)

Saw Jane McGonigal speak at SXSWedu and she was amazing! (Here's a link to her TED talk: http://www.ted.com/talks/jane_mcgonigal_gaming_can_make_a_better_world.html )

So this summer I'll probably be reading her book, "Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World"

And for fun, I'm reading (with my 10-year old son) the Rick Riordan Kane Chronicles. I'm on the first book, "Red Pyramid" and it's pretty awesome. Highly recommend.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is well worth a read, even if you don't usually pick up science books. This one rips along like a good detective story.

The author's back story is fascinating, too. Here's a post about Rebecca Skloot's nontraditional education: http://www.edutopia.org/blog/supporting-struggling-students-suzie-boss

Two school related books for now: Focus by Mike Schmoker and Teaching Boys Who Struggle in School by Kathleen Palmer Cleveland. Both are ASCD books, easy reads, and very insightful in how to improve schools and achieve student success.

Always more to learn. Lately my penchant for reading history has been matched by various PBS and BBC presentations. I'm finishing "1434," by Gaven Menzies, and will start "Empire of the Summer Moon," (about the Comanches.)
