CTE Model: Hands Dirty, Academic Preparation, 21st Century Skills
Since 1991, we are blending Career and Technical Education and core academic subject to prepare students for the medical, dental and allied health professions. In addition, we have additional programs in automotive technologies,information technology, culinary arts, and e-commerce. In our school of four thousand students, twenty-five percent are enrolled in these in multi-year, planned sequence of electives that build upon New York State Regents core curriculum. In 2006, Congressional oversight lead to the adoption of this model across the country for CTE education. We competitively apply for the 4.1-billion dollars available for CTE education, and created ,over the last nine years classroom, the workplace in the classroom. I have a multi-million dollar laboratory establised for a program in medical laboratory and assisting in biotechnology. There are over 300,000 teachers of CTE education across the nation.

In the 20th century, we were already implementing 21st skills with CTE education with the NYSED model, and preparing students for college or 2-year certification programs. We did not have to go small to become great or everyone go to college, althogh 100% in our program enters college. It is the anti-Gates approach to success,since sending all students to college lead with only liberal arts preparation currently leads to 80% failure rates and unemployed students laiden with debt. Let me remind you Bill did not complete college, but embodied the CTE model.
