The first years of practice can be a time of great hope and exhilaration -- and fatigue and anxiety. This group is designed to allow new teachers and veterans alike to connect and share that sense of community that is so important in the first years.

First Term Reflections

Stephen Hurley Grade Eight Teacher, Group Moderator, Facilitator/teacher arts@newman

Well, for many of us, the first term/semester is drawing to a close. I'm not sure what the rhythm of classroom life is like where you are, but our first term report cards go home next week, with parent interviews to follow closely.

For me, this is a time of the year to look back on the first part of the year, make some connections with my original goals that I set in September, and look ahead to the middle part of the year.

For some of you, this is your first time through this cycle, and I'm curious to find out if there are any insights that you have developed during your first weeks of practice. Was there a huge difference in what you have experienced, and what you thought you would be experiencing? If so, in what area of your practice did you find the most difference?

Looking forward to hearing some thoughts and ideas about your first term!
