The first years of practice can be a time of great hope and exhilaration -- and fatigue and anxiety. This group is designed to allow new teachers and veterans alike to connect and share that sense of community that is so important in the first years.

Welcome to Bridges!

Stephen Hurley Grade Eight Teacher, Group Moderator, Facilitator/teacher arts@newman

Greetings and welcome to Bridges: The First Years of Practice. I look forward to working with you to create a forum for the lively and supportive exchange of ideas and insights related to the beginning stages of professional teaching practice.

Although it has been a quarter of a century since my first years of classroom teaching, I can still remember those foundational experiences and relationships that I encountered when I first graduated from my teacher education program. While the support I received didn't prevent me from making mistakes or questioning the job that I was doing, it did help me to keep things in perspective, maintain a sense of balance as well as a sense of humor about what I was experiencing.

I'm hoping that teachers from all stages of their careers will feel comfortable forming a network of support here for those in their first years of practice.

I will be posting a few questions that might help get the conversation going, but feel free to jump in with your own topics and ideas as well.

Looking forward to the journey!

Hello everyone,

I am a first year teacher in SC. I teach French 7-12th.
I enjoy teaching a lot and I like the challenges in the job. It is not always easy but hard work and perseverance helps a lot!
I am glad networks are available to connect with educators and learn from them and I look forward to sharing with you,
Celine
