Chalk and a Rock

Thomas Jimison

I have spent the last twenty years fighting a system that refuses to hold students accountable for their attitude, their behavior or their academic progress.
This entire website seems to be devoted to the misplaced idea that "failure is not an option" mantra chanted by educational reformers is not only beneficial, but ethical. Unfortunately, when failure is impossible, so is success! Has it really escaped everyone's attention that most of the students entering college these days must take remedial classes, because they didnt learn anything in high school? But hey, as long as the 'graduation rate' doesn't go down, who cares!? The entitlement attitude of todays teens that has been exacerbated by no-failure policies is coming home to roost with a vengence.
What is really depressing is that everyone is ignoring the ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. The main reason that public education in the United States is percieved as and has actually become worthless is BECAUSE IT IS FREE!
