Twitter is a world in which we communicate with one another in 140 characters or fewer. There are several great chats going about education (#edchat and #blacked, for example). A date, time and topic are chosen in advance. During that one hour a week, people with interest in the topic join a live feed discussion.

It is time for #artsed to have that conversation. I volunteer to facilitate. I will keep this discussion thread going, advertise the chats and post the topic based on voting.

Please post your suggestions for chat time and topics.

artsed chat

Great idea and thank you for facilitating. I would love to join the conversation. Best time for me is night time - any night, 9 p.m. or later. That said, I am flexible...

Great idea!

I think a Wednesday or Thursday would work best and probably 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET might work best?

Thoughts?

Do you have some thoughts on how you would pick topics? #edchat uses twitpoll that allows users to vote on the topic.

Thanks for arranging this!

Topics

Exactly right. I will collect topic ideas in this forum and then send out the options in a twitpoll. It's a great and easy tool to choose the final topic. Thanks for promoting.

I like Thursday evening a little later... mayne 8et

Topics for #artsed chat

Potential topics:

:: Budget cuts: How can we combat budget cuts that automatically tend to cut art programs first?
:: Something on art and brain development/multiple intelligences (we could invite neurologist Judy Willis to tweet)
:: How can you integrate art into other subjects?

Writer and Educator

How can local arts organizations help the communities to value the arts, reaching both parents and children?

I think since this chat is really about building a network, how about, How do we build a more consistent national dialogue around arts education?

Great #artsed chat topics

Great suggestions so far.

How about:

:: Making the case for arts in education - what strategies have worked, what things can we do everyday to illustrate the importance, what research is out there?

:: Creativity brainstorm -- What are the most fun/rewarding projects you've done?

Let's Do It!

The first #artsed chat will take place on Thursday, April 15th at 7:00 pm ET. Please spread the word. A few days before, I will post a poll to take votes on the topics posted here. Please spread the word to all of your networks. Several arts organizations have also indicated their plans to promote the chat. We could be starting something big! (Though it may start small... :) )

I second Aliza's suggestion about this inaugural chat being about building a national network.

Teaching Artists and Specialists

I'm really interested in how teaching artists and specialists can work together to advance arts education for all children. I'm worried about a perceived competition when there shouldn't be any.
