I have been asked by my school to take on an interim principal role. This position is something I would like to continue to pursue in the future, but I recognize that I need to go back to school and enter a program focusing on educational leadership and/or administration. We are a small independent school who is taking big steps to integrate 21st educational practices in our classrooms. Does anyone have a recommendation for an online-based masters program that would focus in these areas?

There are many MA programs for administrators, and many MA programs for instructional technology. I haven't seen a program that incorporates both. I am currently in a MA program with Liberty Online University MA Ed. Instructional Technology and Online Instruction. I am a principal for a small private school.

Co-incidentally I've just been looking at research from University of Minnesota - haven't done any of their programmes, but the focus on C21st schooling looks very interesting!

If you're interested in something further afield, I can personally recommend the University of Southern Queensland's postgrad education programme. It is largely offered online, and is very high quality with focus on instructional design / technology / virtual learning as well as f-2-f. The cohorts are very international, and the programme is very interactive (constructivist philosophy) so peer interaction adds a valuable dimension to the study. See http://www.usq.edu.au/education

The University of Bath (UK) has an excellent Deptartment of Education that offers online MA and post-doctoral programmes, including courses in educational leadership. Their annual Summer School offers a great opportunity to take additional courses, meet people and for you, travel abroad. Check: http://www.bath.ac.uk/education/

Good luck!
