Rigor and Relevancy

Eric Sheninger Principal at New Milford High School

Recently I blogged about initiatives to increase rigor and relevancy at my school http://esheninger.blogspot.com/2011/03/our-quest-for-more-r.html. I would love to use to thread to collect additional ideas and strategies that we all can utilize to improve teaching and learning. Please share your thoughts and feel free to comment on what we are doing at NMHS.

Single-Gender Education

One way my school works to implement the 3 R's is through single-gender classrooms. While we still work to ensure the 3 R's in our co-ed classrooms, it is plainly obvious to see relevance, rigor, and relationships in a single-gender setting. In this environment, teachers are able to maintain the expectations required of quality teaching while tailoring instruction to meet the individual needs of the collective group of boys or girls. Relationships are often easily fostered through common interests.
