Hello: I am interested in your experiences using Skype. I taught a class last year and became sick. I did not want to miss a full week of class so I Skyped with my students. There was a substitute monitoring the students but overall the porcess worked well. Now as an admin, I have parents asking teachers to allow Skyping for their children to keep in touch with classes when they are out. I see this as a positive intervention but also realize there may be other concerns (and we do have some concerns posed by teachers who do not want to Skype). I used learn-link while at the University and appreciated the connections I could have with some of the quieter students! I see Skype in a similar but less expensive way! Would any of you with experiences please share? Thanks! ~Barbara

Hi Barbara,

We have an edutopia article on Skype called, "Use Skype with Students." At the end of the article there's a link that can provide you with others who are using Skype for their classrooms. Please update us along. Good luck!

We have started using it as a back-up to our IITV system - it can take an amazing amount of bandwidth!
