"The Motivated Student: unlocking the Enthusiasm for Learning"

Bob Sullo author, educational consultant

Do your teachers frequently complain how difficult it is to motivate kids with rewards and punishment? Do they wish kids were more motivated to learn rather than working for tickets to the school store? Do they pine for the days when students seemed more compliant and tell you things are different today?

If so, you may be interested in a book study group I am facilitating based on my ASCD book "The Motivated Student: Unlocking the Enthusiasm for Learning." It starts in 2 weeks and is free. For details, visit:

My goal is to gather as many educators as possible from around the world (literally) and discuss how to engage and inspire kids to value learning and succeed academically. If you're interested in student motivation, I hope you'll join me and be part of this exciting conversation! We have relied for too long on the carrot and stick approach and it has taken us as far as it can. It's time to turn the page and develop new strategies to engage and inspire our students.

I certainly agree that a change needs to be made in order to overcome this motivating challenge we face on a daily basis. I am saddened that I missed the discussion of the book, The Motivated Student;however, I will certainly purchase a copy and find meaningful strategies to use in the classroom.
The one thing that I have found to help motivate students is simply by first creating a caring environment. Then, finding what the students are interested in and creating purposeful lessons. Finally, the fun, hands-on lessons are then a hit.
