"get out of the way"

I am very involved in my son's education and try to offer opportunities outside of school for a broader, more well rounded education. I believe in being balanced about "getting out of the way" when he is learning. On one hand I am involved and want to engage him and on the other I want him to have space to explore what he finds interesting and for him discover things for himself.
One thing I do regarding any type of electronic device (games/computers) is that I allow him to figure out how to use it on his own. I do not explain anything to him and within a short period of time he knows what he is doing. I think he gains a lot of confidence by learning how to use things/programs on his own. (He is seven years old).
