There is nothing being done here that every other state couldn't do even with NCLB. Standardized tests do not stifle creativity. Un-creative teachers do. Standardized tests do not require "teaching to the test." They require teaching of the standards. Autonomous teachers who want to do whatever they please hate that.
What Mr. Christensen is doing is good, but it is not as breathtaking as the article makes it sound. What percentage of Nebraska's students are English Learners and low socioeconomic status? Compare that to California.
