Digital storytelling

Digital storytelling is an incredibly powerful way to challenge students to utilize higher order thinking skills for advanced problem solving. This instructional methodology can be integrated into almost any subject area. In addition to spanning curricular areas, students are exposed to collaborative learning, time on task, project management, and a variety of other life skills. It will help them develop an entrepreneurial mindset that will prepare them to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. Students cannot hide “C” work on a 30-foot screen. They learn to hold themselves accountable, and begin to take a vested interest in their learning. Each year at the end of March, my students hold a celebration of academic achievement. This year, almost 2000 people from around the country will gather to watch our students’ films. The students work all year for that one night. It is an awesome sight to see people waiting in long lines, all with the singular purpose of seeing our students’ homework. To learn more about our celebration please go to the following url: http://www.effingham.k12.il.us/aha/. I encourage you to consider adopting this instructional methodology into your classroom.
