I recieved my teaching certificate through a similar program in Alaska. The program was called Rural Educators Preparation Program, or REPP. It consisted of a 12 month program, being in a school the entire school year, and was focused around the 8 Alaska teaching standards. The program wasn't as 'rigid' as this one seems, which is to say, some teacher interns spent the first half of the school year mostly observing ,while others jumped in, having their own classes beginning day one. It was also geared towards 'second career' candidates, or individuals that already had a bachelor's degree, but no background in education. I admit that it was very tough at times, but you learned very quickly whether or not you really wanted to be a teacher, and I think it definately helped me make the trasition from intern to teacher when I got my first 'real' teaching job.
Alternative teacher training....
