Ready to Jump Right In

I am a teacher in training to become a principal. I feel I have gained experiences but don't feel I have received deep meaningful experiences. My question is, can interns be allowed to act as principals for a few days/weeks during their internship? Or, is too much at stake to place an intern in charge? Teachers get a student teaching assignment where they lead a class. Why doesn't an intern principal get a similiar chance to lead the school?
