There is some truth in all of the comments above. However, I for one am tired of working in a low performing school where I am disrespected by students, parents, and administrators. I became a teacher because I wanted to teach children. In my twenty years I have seen education change into a survival of the schools who make "AYP" and those that do not make "AYP", or pass the next big test. The bottom line is I am tired of being blamed for everyone's problems. I cannot control the child that goes home without any books, sleeps in class, curses teachers at will and faces no consequences. There are too many variables that as a teacher I have no control over. After twenty years ... I have had enough. For me teaching was my dream job. I enjoyed it. Now I feel like a professional hall monitor and babysitter. I will leave the profession to the young dreamers who feel they can make a difference.
