Special Education

Your article gave me the support I need to share my excitement over simulations with my team of teachers. I have not been encouraged by my administrator and teachers who love "the book" just feel they have too much curriculum to cover. Little do they know that through Dr. Rober Ballard and National Geographic's The JASON Project my special education students can simulate the work of scientists, as well as chat with the ones they are simulating as I work to help them learn technical reading. The amazing thing is this program is more difficult reading than our text books and my students rise to the occasion. It is appropriate for ALL students, but it makes special ed kids want to read better and they do, and I also involve Talented and Gifted students who are downright bored with the "book" learning and copying definitions. I'm not going to quit talking about it! And, it's free. Just go to www.Jason.org for the weather unit, "Monster Storms that matches our 5th grade curriculum beautifully.
