I thought this was a great article and it made sense. I agree that students need to feel safe and secure before any real learning or retention takes place. The teacher sets the stage for children to feel comfortable and sound at school.
I also agree that you have a small window of opportunity to engage students in a lesson. Students should be more involved doing an activity and not hearing about it.
Do you have more information pertaining to first graders or elementary aged children?
