As many of us have said, I

As many of us have said, I think the reason for standardized test is to decrease the amount of subjetivity that can be in other forms of assessments and to compare "groups" (weather it be state to state, district to district, etc.) on a like assessment. Standardized tests are a one time snapshot of student understandings. I think the tension arises when these one time tests have such high stakes attached to them and there is not funding to create tests that are more representative of the deepth of students understandings. For example, the reason that we don't have a more performance based science test is money. It is too expensive to develope, score, release items, etc. But if teachers are to be judege on such a test, don't we as a society have the responsibility to create the best test possible? In this global economy don't we have to ensure that our students can demonsrate understanding in authentic manner? If we don't are we preparing our students to be successful and competative in this rapid globalization?
