I am an ESL teacher in Jefferson County Public Schools, Louisville, Kentucky. WE also have a growing number of ELLs and I am a proponent of some type of bilingual education in our schools. Even though it would be unfair to many other students for whom we may not have the qualified staff to teach bilingually, I still believe we should do it. It is sad to see many students that are exceptionally smart and yet they miss on a lot of knowledge just because they do not understand the English language yet. There is just so much Bilingual Associate Instructors can do when there are not enough of them, and they have to go to so many classrooms and try to help so many students.
