I was reminded, while reading the section on cooperative learning, that inherant motivation of the students must be addressed. Self- motivation is a real problem in a world that targets dollars from pre-teen on up, and a society that bases worth on what you have. this leads to a sense of hopelessness in some of our youth. Many students disconnect for whatever reasons in cooperative learning environments because the playing field is not level.
