The number of real students in cyber classrooms is on the rise.

Twenty-six states offer full-time online schooling programs for grades K-12, up from five states in 2007.

Last year, Michigan became the first state to require high school students to have online learning experience before they graduate.

Today, an estimated 92,000 students are registered at more than 190 cyber charter schools.

Tech proponents are increasingly advocating for a blended learning environment that mixes traditional classroom instruction with online coursework.

Many students pursue online learning to secure courses not offered at school, to work, or to receive extra help.

Hybrid Models for Secondary School

Hi Stephanie,

As I understand it, there are not necessarily program out there labeled as 'hybrid' schools for younger students. However, I can tell you that 21CCCS offers students the option to take one or more classes through our cyber charter school, while taking several other courses at their home district (which is brick and mortar). Students are essentially able to create their own hybrid education model by signing up to take the courses they need at different schools.

Is anyone involved in public eduation and offering a hybrid cyber model k-12?
I teach middle school math and our district is looking to implement a hybrid cyber model next year-- offer some on line classes as well as a traditional classroom set up.
Is anyone else doing this model that can share experiences, scheduling ideas, pros/cons, etc.
thx-

Our LEA purchased an online program for afterschool credit recovery. It would be great to be able to offer courses(electives) that we don't have staff for online. Our drawback, of course, is the limited number of computer labs available.

I am leading a discussion group on the book "The World is Flat". The group decided last week, that teachers were among the untouchables. I am sending this link to them to prompt further conversation.
