I was so excited about this idea, i wrote a post about it over on my blog as well: http://www.whitneyhoffman.com/2013/11/20/personal-users-manual/
Like with Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory, how much better would things be if we understood each other's operating systems just a little bit better?

I really love this idea. It's part of developing that really good classroom environment, and letting everyone know upfront what your "operating system" is. For example, I tell colleagues up front sometimes "I have ADD, so often, I have two times - now and not now. If I don't get back to you, please ping me. It may have slipped off the front burner, and I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just forgetful sometimes." This helps so much, and lessens feelings of frustration all the way around. And just think how much kids would appreciate knowing up front what you fine most important and are a "stickler for" rather than having to guess through trial and error. I LOVE this.

The three of us talked about that a little bit, how it would be nice to do this with our colleagues. I enjoyed reading Mike's guide and seeing how aware he is of some of his quirks. Every once in a while, my students will reference one of the funny little bits in my user's guide, and I think you're exactly right; it does humanize us. It's good for students to see that we don't just plug into the wall in our classroom and recharge for the next day like our laptop carts.

Really love this idea. I especially like how you incorporated humor into your manual. I think it's so important to show students that you're human too and I'm sure that this exercise significantly improved your relationships with your students, as well as your in-the-classroom student-to-student relationships.

The more I think about this exercise, it'd be great to do for colleagues as well!
