The digital age continues to expand each day. There are teachers today that still find it difficult to completely transition towards our new form of communication. Providing 35% of online instruction will have great impact on the way classroom instruction takes place. In addition, the benefits this instruction provides for our parents involved in the students educational processes. I’m excited but there may be a lot of short coming occurring towards this progress. Yes, failures continue to happen in the digital age but success is sure to follow with each attempt.

The concept of school leaders

The concept of school leaders as transitional leaders resonated with me as well. Not only are we experiencing a sea change in technology integration, we are in the midst of a paradigm shift towards Common Core, RTI, and a number of other models. This is an exciting and challenging time to be a teacher!

The only thing I would raise

The only thing I would raise a concern about is that there are more successes than failures and that we have to "merely" prepare faculty for some failure. The reality is that there will be more failure than success and we are kidding ourselves as leaders if we don't grasp that nettle. An interesting insight into this is given in The Click Moment by Frans Johansson. This reality is why parents don't like innovation in schools far more than faculty - don't experiment with my child!

This is such great advice for school leaders! Teachers, students and even parents all need to be on-board and supported when implementing a technology plan. It is also important to make sure all stake holders have a firm foundation. Teaching digital citizenship and literacy to both students and teachers should be a priority.
Someone needs to be responsible for creating responsible digital citizens!

I love this definition of today's school leaders. We really are at a critical juncture is the history of education as we integrate and take full advantage of technology. Our kids are entering a new world and fully engaged teachers and administrations need to position themselves to prepare the way.

One of the most important elements to ensure success is to create foster the understanding that it is the responsibility of the schools to best prepare their students to succeed in both education and business after their K-12 careers. Students who are not adept at using technology will be ill prepared. Having said that, technology has to be used constructively and not for the sake of using technology. The schools have a huge responsibility in integrating technology in creative and useful ways to ensure they are maximizing student learning - and potential.

Our world is changing. Information is available in so many venues. Now, more than ever, we should be opening our children’s eyes to the plethora of knowledge available to them. Students should not be confined to a textbook as their only source of information.
