Thank you for this post. I know that, as teachers, we have so much on our plates. But taking the extra bit of effort and concern for students can really mean so much. It pays dividends both in their social growth as well as in their academic achievement--studies have shown that more happy and joyful students retain information better and can perform better on assessments. It takes a lot of awareness and empathy, but it can be done. Thank you for your encouragment, and I look forward to reading the follow-up blog.

Thank you for this important message. I look forward to the next blog with tip for how to offer support. Many years ago one of my children died and my other elementary school children expressed the frustration that no one seemed to know about it. But their teachers did know - I made sure of it - but they didn't respond and that made my children feel very isolated and invisible.
