Thanks Andrew for addressing these Myths. As a new PBL Teacher I find when I'm asked about coverage its usually with respect to content, and only content. One of the things that excites me most is the opportunities rich PBL offers to teach skills. In that sense its my goal to shift the conversation to uncovering diverse ways of communicating, thinking, collaborating, and creating!

If you are interested in learning how to use project based learning as a tool in your classroom, a great place to start is www.BIE.org. PBL needs to be given a try because our children are changing and because times are changing, which means we must also change as educators. I hope that PBL changes your classroom for the better. I will surely come back with a comment to let you know about my successes and my failures from the 2013-2014 school year! Good luck everyone!

Project Based Learning is still very new to me, however, it seems that while a project may be designed to take approximately 20+ days, you can still effectively cover the required material. When working on a project, the scaffolding and the lessons incorporated should include the course content. Ultimately, isn't the goal to cover the required material by way of PBL? Again, I am still learning about PBL, constantly revising and reflecting. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I completely agree and i am elated that there is someone out there who is also talking about 'uncovering!'
We are all so busy covering the content and in truth, take painstaking efforts to systematically erode all sense of curiosity in a child! Lets stop portraying 'lack of time and extensive course content' as the reason for the current malaise . It's time we took complete responsibility!
