I work in a CTT/ICT classroom with many students with occupational therapy issues. I completely agree that there are "Apps for Every Need." Check out some of the ways that I use iPads in my fifth grade classroom: www.ClassTechTips.com

I wish every child could have an ipad or at least access to one. My daughter keeps my grandson from public school because she knew if he could teach him to use one ,he could learn to communicate. He is only 5 and works all the ipad like a champ! He has learned how to write his name and even how to sign the alphabet! I can't say enough about the way technology helps the child with a different way of learning. Teachers should be avocating for this great tool.

As teachers we have to adapt

As teachers we have to adapt to what's happening now. Right now we are living in a Social Media frenzy. We have used technology in our math classes using the TI (Texas Instrument) Calulators and our scores have went up by 20% in Mathematics. We have the touch screen color calculators they are like many computers, and the kids love them. The student engagement is up, the morale is up, and so are grades. I didn't want this in the classroom but I gave it chance, and look we are well on our way to the top in math this year. As stated we have to be willing to adapt to change as teachers, we are still learning like the students in the classroom. Teachers are considered as lifelong learners in this field. I try to up with the latest technolgy and do my best to implement it in the classroom.

Andrew: Fabulous article! Meghan's journey helps us to see how far assistive technology has come to serve mainstream learning and so many individuals. Bookshare is also a quality educational service. The online library is free for U.S.schools and parents of children with qualified print disabilities, including reading technologies and easy to use apps. Thank you for sharing!
