Hi everyone,

I created qrvoice.net a while ago and got several messages from educators benefiting from this free service: enter a message and a qrcode is generated, once scanned it'll play the message with a synthesized voice.

Have fun!

There are so many great uses for qr codes in the classroom, but I use qr codes to make MY life easier. I have icandy and a webcam installed on my desktop and have laminated index cards with qr codes of all of my visited websites; school website, gradebook, email, district contact directory, twitter, edutopia. . . When I log onto my desktop in the am, I click on icandy and then "swipe" the qr code I need. Email? Instead of three clicks, it's one swipe in front of my webcam! Having qr codes in an index box on my desk means having al my imporant resources at my fingertips - a stopwatch app? No need to google search - just pull out the qr code index card and swipe it - instant access! best thing since hot keys! (combine those with qr codes and . . . Well, that's another post!

QR Code Lesson Plan ideas

1. Create QR codes for famous people, places, items you just studied from content. Place them on a sticker and then place one on back of each student. Tell them to circulate the room scanning/giving clue to ppl as to what they are. Have students try to guess. Great icebreaker and review activity.

2. Create a lesson where students travel to stations around the room, study images related to content, each having a QR code taking them to additional info regarding. Have the students make the link between image and expository. Here's a link to an example lesson on life of St. Patrick that uses QR Codes: http://blog.teachtci.com/st-patricks-day-lesson

Wow - these are awesome and fabulous ideas. My teaching team used QR codes to create a series of tutorials for students to become "digitally functioning" in our classrooms - setting up their blogs, creating an eportfolio, using the cloud printer, ect. VERY helpful for when new students come in. Thanks to all for sharing these terrific ideas!

As an add-on to this: Teachers making their own homework assignments can add QR codes to tricky problems that take students to explanations online, additional practice, or videos that review. Also a great way to get parents to help students with homework.

This assumes that all students have a smart phone, of course, to be able to engage with the activities. That is certainly not the case at my public high school.

Thank you so much for this post! QR codes are such an invaluable resource for classroom use. They allow students to determine their own "path" especially when given at classroom stations. Several weeks ago we did a series of post about them as argument/art as well as a way to create writing extensions. We can't think of a better way to create critical thinkers and engaged learners!
