2010
- Edutopia is the silver winner of the 2010 W3 Award for our website video features.
- Edutopia is the winner of two 2010 Telly Awards for video excellence: a bronze award for "Digital Generation Project" and for "Schools That Work: YES Prep."
- Dr. Milton Chen and The George Lucas Educational Foundation each receive awards for Innovative Leadership in Science Education from the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California, Berkeley.
- Edutopia is one of the Top 40 Fan Pages on Facebook as voted by KBuzz. Judging is based on brand responsiveness, interactivity, creativity, overall design, and fan count. With more than three million fan pages on Facebook, this is great recognition.
- Edutopia is an Official Honoree for the Best Practices category in The 14th Annual Webby Awards. The Official Honoree distinction is awarded to the top 15% of all work entered that exhibits remarkable achievement.
- Edutopia is selected as one of eCollegeFinder's top 50 Education Innovators! We are being recognized for our dedication to the advancement of learning.
2009
- Edutopia magazine wins two 2009 Eddie Awards, from FOLIO: a silver for the full February/March issue and a bronze for the article "Slam Dunk" in the June/July issue. The magazine also won an Ozzie Award, earning a silver for Best Use of Digital Imagery for "Beauty and the Avatar" from the June/July issue.
- By popular acclaim, Edutopia.org wins the Webby People's Voice Award for Best Education Web Site. The site is also nominated for best Web site in the Webby Awards's formally judged Education category.
- Edutopia magazine wins a Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers (under the Foundation's name) for the December 2008/January 2009 issue, which features articles about what we call the Collaboration Age. The Foundation was also nominated for two of Edutopia magazine's editor's notes: "Demanding Better Public Schools from Aspiring Leaders" and "Tomorrowland Today."
- Edutopia magazine is nominated for three awards from the Western Publishing Association: for the February/March 2008 issue, which features a series of articles about education around the world, for the feature essay "Programming Is the New Literacy," and for the Dispatches essay "Children Have to Grow Up Too Fast."

- The Foundation receives the 2008 Professional Publications Award from the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association.
- The Foundation receives the 2008 E. Robert Stephens Award from the Association of Educational Services Agencies.
- Edutopia and the Foundation receive the Exploratorium's Outstanding Educator Award at the world-renowned museum's thirty-first annual Exploratorium Awards celebration.
- Edutopia magazine receives a Maggie Award from the Western Publications Association for Best Cover for the October 2007 "Go Green" feature.

- Edutopia magazine receives a Distinguished Achievement Award in the Editorial category from the Association of Educational Publishers for James Daly's June 2006 Editor's Note.

- Edutopia magazine receives three Maggie Awards from the Western Publications Association: for Best Cover/Consumer for the July 2005 issue, featuring the special section "What Works"; Special Interest/Consumer (theme) for the "iKids" features, in the October 2005 issue; and Best Single Editorial Illustration/Consumer for the illustration accompanying "Clowning Around: How to Handle the Class Clown," in the September 2005 issue.
- George Lucas and the Foundation receive the CUE Technology in Learning Award from Computer-Using Educators.

- The Foundation receives a Northern California Emmy nomination for the half-hour documentary Edutopia Special, featuring Student Entrepreneurs Win Big: "Changing the World and Our Community" and Turning On the Switch: Students Engage in Their Learning.
- The Foundation receives an Instructor Seal of Approval from Scholastic Instructor for the Moving Images video series.
